BEST OF MATCH GAME - DUMB DORA EDITION (DVD MOVIE)

This is Not a One Disc Set

For some reason Amazon is taking the reviews for "The Dumb Dora Edition" which is only one disc and placing them on this product. This version is a reprint of the old "Best of Match Game" set which went out of print. The only difference is the episodes & extras appear on 3 discs instead of 4 but the content is exactly the same. So if you already have the old Best of Match Game set there is nothing new here. However for those who didn't buy the old set it's nice to see this in print again.

I only gave the product 4 stars because I don't necessarily think the episodes picked are "the best" of Match Game. It seems when picking episodes they went with what famous celebrity was on the panel instead of really funny/memorable moments in many cases. I also think there are too many episodes before Brett & Charles joined in 1973 and then too many episodes after Richard left in 1978. Personally the best for me would be when Brett, Charles, & Richard were all on the panel.

However there are still some great episodes on this set like the famous "School Riot" episode and the episode when Richard & Fannie pretend to be Brett & Charles. The set also contains the three episodes that Kirstie Alley appears as a contestant which might be interesting to some fans. Not to mention best episodes or not it's great to be able to watch full episodes of Match Game that are not edited by GSN to add in more commercials and credit crunches.

Dumb Dora Is So Dumb....

This is a single disc of "Match Game" from its very early days (1973-1976), and given its price since it went out of print, it's probably wise to buy one of the multi-disc sets that are a better value. For fans of the show, this disc is interesting as it has the very first Match Game episode hosted by the legendary Gene Rayburn plus several others. (As an aside, I noticed how quickly the writing of the questions improved after the debut episode.) There is also a special feature starring frequent panelist Brett Somers, who, sadly, passed away in 2007.

The games are as entertaining as they were when they first aired, but it would have been nice to have more consecutive shows in the set. The panelists are a varied lot, some of whom have vanished into obscurity in the thirty-something years since their were made. Others are noteworthy, and several became forever linked with the show, notably Richard Dawson, Brett Somers, and the always entertaining Charles Nelson Reilly, who passed away just a few months before Somers.

This is one of the original franchise of good clean fun television game shows, and if you don't mind paying the price, this is a genuine piece of television history.

Confused?...........

Is this a re-release of the set was out previously, or is it all new material? Would love to see an sdditional 30 episodes of this show!

Not so dumb.

If you look on the cover it says,' Dumb Dora Edition. The problem with this is there was not one Dumb Dora question on this whole DVD though there is a good thing about it. It is for all of you Michael Landon fans out there as he appears in two Match Game episodes. Brett Somers talks about her time on Match Game in the bonus section. Guests are Michael Landon, Jack Klugman, Vicki Lawrance, Loratta Swit, Mclean Stevenson, Fannie Flag, Eva Gabor, Arte Johnson, Marcia Wallace, Avery Schreiber, Richard Dwson, Charles Nelson Reilly and Betty White. Best of Match Game DVD Collection If you care to give this one a shot this has more episodes and of course more laughs.

Great for those who are on a tight budget

Yes this is disc one, but if you could not afford the 4 disc box set then this is for you.
